Introduction
This one year course is a practical, performance-based programme
that aims to help those talented students that have the potential
for full time vocational training but have not achieved the necessary
technical standard required for entry. The programme offers students
the opportunity to study and improve their technique through
the participation of daily classes in Ballet, Tap and Jazz, Contemporary,
Singing, Acting and Musical Theatre workshops. The nature of
the programme is vocational in order to equip the individual
with a wide range of skills that will enable them to achieve
the necessary technical standards required for entry to prevocational
colleges. Students on this course will automatically have a free
audition at Bird College but will also be encouraged to audition
at other vocational colleges.
Structure and content of Course
In terms 1, 2 & 3 students will participate in daily classes
in Ballet, Jazz, Tap, Contemporary, Singing, Voice, Drama and
Musical Theatre. Students will also be coached in audition techniques
in preparation for their vocational auditions: areas covered
are suitability of song, dance and monologue as well as interview
techniques, photographs and application forms. Students will
also study, through lectures, issues concerning the healthy dancer/
performer.
Attendance requirements
30 weeks of full time training over 3 terms.
Assessment
Continuous course work and end of programme assessments in each
of the disciplines.
Progression Routes to Vocational Qualifications
On successful completion of the course, graduates will automatically
be given an audition for Bird College's vocational courses either
through the FE or the HE route. Students will be given guidance
on other suitable vocational colleges and advice is given throughout
the course.
Fees
£5000.00 for the year payable in two instalments. The first
instalment will be payable on or before the first day of the
course (September) and the second instalment on the first day
of the second term (January).
Funding
Grants are not usually available but you should contact your
Local Education Authority for advice, you may qualify for an
Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA). Further information on
