This programme represents a new opportunity for research
and study in the field of Dance and Musical Theatre at Masters
level. The programme lies within the well-established MA
by Research offered by the School of Humanities at the University
of Greenwich, with subject-specialist support provided through
Bird College. The duration of the programme is one year full
time or two years part time.
The School of Humanities within the University of Greenwich
is a large and dynamic school with over 2000 students -
full and part-time - on programmes from foundation to postgraduate
level. The subject areas currently being offered within
the MA by Research include:
- Applied Linguistics
- Cultural Geography
- English (including Creative Writing)
- History
- Modern European Philosophy
- Politics
- Theological Studies
- World Trade and Development
Subject to validation by the University of Greenwich,
the Dance and Musical Theatre subject area will be added
to this portfolio from September 2006
The MA by Research is the first programme at postgraduate
level for Bird, and represents an exciting opportunity
for the College to develop a research portfolio in a subject
domain that is much neglected within the academic research
community, yet crucially important to the profile and commercial
success of British theatre. We believe that students researching
within Dance and Musical Theatre will benefit greatly from
being closely involved with other research students within
a broad field of Humanities. Indeed, the opportunity to
study in the School of Humanities with its rich, diverse
and stimulating research-oriented programmes, and the wider
context of the University itself, will provide a firm and
dynamic base from which research of the highest order and
value will emerge.
